Karvan Travel Guide

General

Azerbaijan is one of the oldest and one of the most beautiful Caucasian country. In ancient sources Azerbaijan was named “Land Of Fires”. A visit to this beautiful place is sometimes like taking a walk in ancient periods. The first necessary step to do is taking a few days in the capital city Baku which is port city on the shores of the Caspian sea. It is an excellent city to tour on foot. However Baku may boast a lot of historical architectures. Most impressive place is Icheri Sheher (Inside City) where you can feel yourself in B.C VI-V centuries. There are several cities which they have a lot of charming architecture dating from this period. Over the world, few cities have such a long and turbulent story as has Baku. Fortunately, Baku (pop. 2.800.000) is compact enough city to skim the best in five (full) days and if you have more time, we guarantee you will find delightful and fulfilling ways to use it. The city provides excellent services for seeing other historical and interesting towns like Gandja, Sheki, Shamakhi, Nakchevan. Beside historical places you can find luxurious seaside places to enjoy your drink, dream and sunset: Nabran, Zagulba, Novkhani, Altiagac, etc...

Accommodation

Azerbaijan has no shortage of places to stay, it has a large variety of hotels. From the luxurious to the small boat hotels. We can’t hope to make a listing of all of them, but we have selected a few luxurious to get you started: EXCELSIOR, PARK INN, HAYYAT REGENCY, EUROPE, AUSTIN, Grand Hotel NAKCHEVAN etc…Try to book a place before you arrive because it can be very hard to find place during the summer and during most other seasons also. You can book directly over the Internet or via Karvan Tourism Agency. Note that if you show up directly, you usually pay more than if you book ahead. The top hotels are of course the nicest, but only for those who can afford them.

Shopping
There are various shopping areas. Prices are relatively low, compared with other European capitals and have a wide selection to offer. Most shops close at 20:00 and shops in the center are open during weekdays and till late times. The shopping streets get extremely crowded on Sundays as a lot of people from around. The most elegant shopping places can be traced at the Fountains Garden in Baku, Caspian Shopping, Jahan. If you're looking for some real Azerbaijan-style shops, don't forget to explore the area of Icheri Sheher especially around Qiz Qalasi. Looking for some real big shopping malls? Then you're at the right place - BAKU, where you can find the shopping centers. They sell everything that is new, modern and fashionable. So u have been warned…
